Province Issues Proposal Call for More Affordable Housing
COMMUNITY SERVICES--Province Issues Proposal Call for More Affordable Housing
The province has issued a second call for proposals under the Canada-Nova Scotia Affordable Housing agreement.
The request for proposals is for the development of new affordable rental housing for singles, families, seniors and people with disabilities throughout the province.
Community-based organizations, municipalities and the private sector are invited to submit proposals on, or before, Feb. 16, 2005.
The first request for proposals, issued in March 2004, has resulted in the approval of 178 affordable rental housing units in Debert, New Minas, Chester, Westville, Truro, Halifax and Sydney Mines.
To date, the province and the federal government have committed $11.55 million in funding for the construction or renovation of a total of 313 units in the province -- valued at $19.1 million. It is expected that between 850 and 1,500 affordable housing units will be created or renovated under the $37.3-million affordable housing agreement by 2007.
Copies of the request for proposals are available at the Public Tenders Office, 6176 Young St., Halifax; by calling 902-424-3333; or visiting the website at www.gov.ns.ca/tran/tour/ .
