Highway 103 Twinning Project

The Highway 103 twinning project continues to move forward.

A tender for more road work to twin the highway between the Hubley and Tantallon exits (exits 4 and 5) was announced today, Dec. 22.

"The project to twin Highway 103 will benefit many people who travel this highway," said Ron Russell, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "This is another step forward in improving the safety of our roads and the flow of goods and services throughout our province."

The tender is for building the road base of the eastbound lanes of Highway 103, from about four kilometres west of Exit 4 to about one kilometre east of Exit 5 (about four kilometres in total). It also includes the Trunk 3 access road, from Trunk 3 at Sheldrake Lake westerly, about 1.5 kilometres.

The tender closes Jan. 20, 2005. Work is expected to be complete by Oct. 31.

The Department of Transportation and Public Works highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
