The Sounds of Christmas At Sherbrooke

Sherbrooke Village will soon be alive with the sounds of the season as annual Old Fashioned Christmas events get under way.

The festivities begin on Friday, Nov. 26 at 7:45 p.m. with a candlelight procession, followed by a family Christmas show at the Village Square. The show will feature East Coast Music Award winners, Kidd Brothers.

Other activities planned for Old Fashioned Christmas include:

  • Saturday Nov. 27: A Christmas ceilidh with music by Sherbrooke's Roly Burton and Bob MacDonald and special guest Karen MacDonald of Ardness, Pictou Co. It begins at 3 p.m. at the Courthouse.

  • Saturday, Nov. 27: An old fashioned Christmas concert featuring local performers of all ages takes place at the Sherbrooke Lions Hall, 7:30 p.m.

  • Sunday, Nov. 28: The popular ecumenical choir service takes place at St. James Presbyterian Church, located in Sherbrooke Village. The choir service features congregational favourites as well as performances by various artists. It starts at 7 p.m.

  • Saturday, Dec. 4: Popular Antigonish-based band The Shades will provide the music for the annual Christmas dance at the Lions Hall, featuring top 40s and seasonal music, starting at 9 p.m.

  • Sunday, Dec. 5: A Christmas Ceilidh at the Courthouse, with Sherbrooke's own, Roly Burton and Bob MacDonald. They will be joined by guest performers Lisa Hallett, Ronnie Hull and Coleen Benoit. The ceilidh begins at 3:30 p.m.

  • Sunday, Dec. 5: Sherbrooke's Clary Croft will present "A Nova Scotia Christmas-Stories and Song" at 7:30 p.m. at the Sherbrooke Courthouse. This Old Fashioned Christmas finale will also feature Clary's musical friends Gordon Stobbe and Margo Carruthers.
