Review of Nova Scotia Power Sought

Nova Scotians deserve clear answers from an independent source on Nova Scotia Power's response to last weekend's storm, Premier John Hamm said today, Nov. 16.

The premier wrote today to the Utility and Review Board requesting an open and public review of the company's activities following previous storms in light of its response to last weekend's storm.

"Yesterday morning, Emergency Measures Minister Ernest Fage and I indicated the need for an open and public review," said Premier Hamm. "Nova Scotians deserve answers on what changes Nova Scotia Power made to learn the lessons of Hurricane Juan and White Juan, what went wrong on communications and infrastructure issues in the aftermath of this storm, and what specific plan Nova Scotia Power should have to provide better service when problems such as this storm strike."

Following Hurricane Juan, the Utility and Review Board engaged an independent consultant to review Nova Scotia Power's response. Recommendations were presented to the provincially regulated company.
