Tender Called on Old Halifax Infirmary

TRANSPORTATION/PUBLIC WORKS--Tender Called on Old Halifax Infirmary

The Old Halifax Infirmary is a step closer to demolition.

A tender has been called to demolish the building and clean up the site.

Work will begin to clean up asbestos and other hazardous materials inside the building once the tender is awarded. Demolition of the building's shell will follow.

"The building's size and the hazardous materials housed there make this a complicated project that must be carefully planned and managed," said Ron Russell, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "Safety will be a priority at the site."

The Old Halifax Infirmary is on a 3.5-acre site facing Queen Street, Spring Garden Road and Morris Street in Halifax.
