Bruhm Bridge To Be Replaced

Residents of Lunenburg County are getting a new steel panel bridge.

The Bruhm Bridge, which crosses the LaHave River, should be in place by the end of the year.

"This bridge is an important link for people living and working in the area," said Ron Russell, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "The replacement of the Bruhm Bridge will improve the road infrastructure in Lunenburg County."

Willfield Limited of Bridgewater was awarded the $748,000 contract to remove the old structure and erect the new one. Work will get underway in the next two weeks.

The bridge is being replaced because of serious flood damage in the spring of 2003. The new 58-metre-long bridge will be in the same location as the old one.

The Department of Transportation and Public Works highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
