Western District Road Improvements
Residents living in western Nova Scotia can look forward to road improvements in their region.
The Nova Scotia Department of Transportation and Public Works has awarded four contracts in Digby, Lunenburg and Yarmouth counties, totalling $2.1 million dollars.
"These contracts are good news for travellers and for local communities," said Ron Russell, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "We're taking the necessary steps to improve our province's road infrastructure."
In Lunenburg County, two sections of Route 325 will be repaved. One section is about 4.4 kilometres from Northfield Road east to Route 324. The other section is west from Monk Road at Baker Settlement to Samuel Oickle Road at West Clifford, about 5.4 kilometres.
The province will also repave Forest Village Road at Simms Settlement in Chester. The Municipality of the District of Chester will share the costs with the province. These repaving contracts were awarded to Dexter Construction.
In Yarmouth County, Aberdeen Paving Limited has won the contract to repave 3.4 kilometres of Hardscratch Road, from the Yarmouth Town Line to Greenville Road.
In Digby County, 0.4 kilometres of Bel Air Drive, from Route 303 west to the road's end will be paved, and on Hillcrest Drive about 0.2 kilometres from St. Mary's Street to the end of the cul-de-sac. The province is sharing the costs of this project with the Municipality of Digby. The contract was awarded to Lafarge Canada Inc.
Work on all the projects is expected to be completed this fall.
The Department of Transportation and Public Works highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from offices located in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
