Road Improvements for Eastern Nova Scotia
TRANSPORTATION/PUBLIC WORKS--Road Improvements for Eastern Nova Scotia
Residents and visitors in the eastern area of the province can look forward to more road improvements.
Four contracts for road work, worth more than $3.2 million, have recently been awarded in Cape Breton, Victoria and Guysborough counties.
"We're working hard to improve and strengthen the province's infrastructure in all areas of the province and for all Nova Scotians," said Ron Russell, Minister of Transportation and Public Works.
Two contracts were awarded for work in Cape Breton County. One contract, worth more than $1.5 million, is for repaving Route 327, from Grand Mira South Road northerly, about four kilometres; and repaving Route 223, east of Scotch Lake Road westerly, about 2.4 kilometres. The contract was awarded to Dexter Construction. Work is expected to be completed in June 2005.
The other contact for Cape Breton County, worth $270,000, is for paving Oakfield Drive, from Hillside Road southeasterly, about one kilometre; and paving about 0.6 kilometres of Sunrise Drive. The contract was awarded to Municipal Ready Mix. Work is expected to be completed by the end of October.
The contract for Victoria County, worth more than $1 million, is for repaving part of Trunk 30 - Cabot Trail, from the federal park entrance southerly, about 5.3 kilometres. The contract was awarded to Dexter Construction. Work is expected to be completed in summer 2005.
The contract for Guysborough County, worth $357,000, is for grading and gravelling the Antigonish/Guysborough Road, from the Heatherton Road easterly, about 1.7 kilometres. The contract was awarded to Laredo Construction. Work is expected to be completed this fall.
The Department of Transportation and Public Works highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
