Education Minister Salutes Nova Scotia's Teachers

More than 10,000 teachers are working hard to provide students in Nova Scotia's public schools with a quality education.

Education Minister Jamie Muir said World Teachers' Day, Tuesday, Oct. 5, is an opportunity to thank those teachers for their solid commitment to helping students succeed.

"Teachers are the front-line of the education system," said Mr. Muir. "Quality teaching and learning depends on quality teachers and Nova Scotia is fortunate to have many dedicated, skilled teaching professionals in its schools. We owe them our thanks and appreciation on World Teachers' Day and every day of the year."

Started by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1994, World Teachers' Day is celebrated annually to highlight the important role of teachers, worldwide. The theme for 2004 is Quality Teachers for Quality Education and more than 100 countries are participating.
