Members Plan for Annual 4-H Show in Truro
The Nova Scotia 4-H Show brings thousands of families and more than 40 projects to a different community each year. From Oct. 1 to Oct. 3 at the Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition Grounds in Truro, 4-H members will reacquaint with old friends, present their projects to the public, challenge themselves in various competitions and have some fun.
"The 4-H program teaches young people life skills that they can take from youth to adulthood," said Chris d'Entremont, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries. "This show is an excellent place to see these young people in action."
This year, Halifax East Hants, Colchester and Cumberland County 4-H councils will host the show.
"The committee is excited about hosting the Provincial 4-H Show in Truro," said Ankie Fisher, chairperson of the 2004 Nova Scotia 4-H Show. "We are excited to see it now that the new Agri-dome is part of the Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition Grounds. I'm sure the result will be quite spectacular. It's been a pleasure working with Colchester and Cumberland County 4-H councils and we look forward to seeing many spectators at the 4-H Show."
The Nova Scotia 4-H Show offers parents, children, leaders and spectators an opportunity to view quality work and technical skills. During the weekend, 4-H members will participate in livestock competitions, a fashion show, floral arranging competition, dog obedience and handling trials, tug of war, market steer, lamb and turkey auctions and selections for the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto.
The 4-H show competitions begin on Friday, Oct. 1, at 1 p.m. and continue until Sunday, Oct. 3, at noon. The public is welcome to attend and admission is free.
