Fall Session To Focus on Health, Safety and Services

PREMIER'S OFFICE--Fall Session To Focus on Health, Safety and Services

With co-operation from all members of the legislature, Nova Scotians will see better health care, safer roads and enhanced services from the fall sitting of the legislature, Premier John Hamm said today, Sept. 22, in Stellarton.

In remarks before a cabinet meeting today, the premier said he expected to meet with both opposition leaders within the week.

"As our government has done in the previous two sittings of the legislature, we will continue to work with the two opposition parties on an agenda of co-operation to build a better Nova Scotia," said Premier Hamm. "We will be bringing forward at least 12 new pieces of legislation. They will focus primarily on health, safety and government services."

Among the likely legislative highlights are bills to establish a computerized prescription drug monitoring program, modernize mental health law, improve road safety, strengthen maintenance enforcement orders and address French-language services for Acadian communities.

"Nova Scotians told me this summer that they like co-operative minority government," said Premier Hamm. "They can rest assured that, as premier, I remain committed to working with all MLAs this fall to build a better Nova Scotia."

The legislature resumes Thursday, Sept. 23.
