Film Industry Says Thanks
For the second year in a row, Nova Scotia's film, television and commercial industry is thanking fellow Nova Scotians for the help they have given in making the province's film business a success.
"Without the warm welcome that film personnel receive from Nova Scotians, they couldn't do the job they do," says ACTRA Maritimes branch representative Gary Vermeir, chair of the Film Advisory Committee. "Producers love to film in Nova Scotia because we have fabulous locations and because people are very understanding and tolerant of film activity. For that, those of us in the film industry are very grateful indeed."
The Thank You HRM, Thank You Nova Scotia campaign, is an opportunity for the film industry to acknowledge the support and hospitality of business and property owners and neighbourhoods and communities who have hosted film cast and crew this past year. The campaign includes advertisements in metro and provincial newspapers, as well as thank you cards that will be distributed throughout the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) and the province.
The Film Advisory Committee, which is coordinating the campaign, includes representatives from provincial and municipal government, labour unions and other industry organizations.
Thank You HRM, Thank You Nova Scotia partners include the Nova
Scotia Film Development Corporation, the Halifax Regional
Municipality Film Office, the Directors' Guild of Canada
Atlantic Council, the Motion Picture Studio Production
Technicians IATSE Local 849, the International Cinematographers
Guild IATSE Local 667 and ACTRA Maritimes. Industry sponsors

In 2003-04, the film industry contributed more than $113 million to the province's economy and employed some 2,000 Nova Scotians. Activity in the province included local productions, as well as guest productions from the U.S. and Europe.
