Road Improvements in Digby County

An important road link for residents and tourists of Digby County is receiving an upgrade.

A $1-million contract has recently been awarded to repave five kilometres of Route 217 from Central Grove easterly toward Tiverton.

"This work will strengthen the link from Brier Island and Long Island to the mainland," said Ron Russell, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "This is exciting news for residents of the area as well as for tourists who visit this popular destination."

The contract was awarded to Dexter Construction Co. Ltd. Work is expected to be complete by Oct. 31.

The Department of Transportation and Public Works highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
