Repaving Contract for Route 224 Awarded

TRANSPORTATION/PUBLIC WORKS--Repaving Contract for Route 224 Awarded

A section of roadway leading to one of the province's most popular parks is receiving an upgrade.

A $1 million contract has recently been awarded to repave 6.2 kilometres of Route 224.

"Route 224 is commonly used by people visiting one of Nova Scotia's treasures, the Shubenacadie Wildlife Park," said Ron Russell, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "Repaving this route will help our families and tourists to arrive safely at the park and other destinations."

The project begins at the intersection of Route 224 and Route 277 in Halifax County and extends northerly to Elderbank Road in Colchester County.

Basin Contracting Ltd. has been awarded the contract and work is expected to be complete by Oct. 31.

The Department of Transportation and Public Works highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
