Replacing Lower Eel Creek Bridge in Cumberland County

TRANSPORTATION/PUBLIC WORKS--Replacing Lower Eel Creek Bridge in Cumberland County

A new bridge will make driving safer on a popular tourist route in Cumberland County.

A tender has recently been called to replace the Lower Eel Creek Bridge on Route 301. The bridge is located west of the intersection of Route 301 and Trunk 6 near Port Howe.

"Route 301 is a popular route for people visiting the provincial parks on the Northumberland Strait and other attractions in the area," said Ron Russell, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "Replacing the Lower Eel Creek Bridge will help to make the trip safer for tourists and residents alike."

The new two-lane concrete bridge will replace the existing steel truss bridge, which was built in 1949.

The tender closes on Friday, Aug. 27 and work is expected to be complete by Nov. 30.

The Department of Transportation and Public Works highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains an inventory of 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
