TRANSPORTATION/PUBLIC WORKS--Road Improvements for Cumberland County

More road improvements are coming for the people of Cumberland County.

A $1.5-million contract has recently been awarded to repave three sections of roadway, totalling 9.2 kilometres. The investment is in addition to $5.2 million in capital funding the department has already announced to improve the county's roads. It brings the total major project investment to $6.7 million this year.

"This contract is part of our continued investment in the road network in Cumberland County," said Ron Russell, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "Residents should feel confident that the province is working hard to improve their roads."

The contract covers Route 321, from Oxford town line south to Wyvern Road, about 5.1 kilometres; Route 301, from Carrington Road east to Trunk 6, about 3.4 kilometres; and Route 307, from Trunk 6 to Quarry Hill Road, about 0.7 kilometres.

The contract was awarded to Dexter Construction Co. Ltd. Work is expected to be complete by Aug. 31.

The Department of Transportation and Public Works highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains an inventory of 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
