4-H Members To Attend Alberta Horse Classic

AGRICULTURE/FISHERIES--4-H Members To Attend Alberta Horse Classic

For the first time, four 4-H members from Nova Scotia will join youth from across the country at the 10th annual Alberta 4-H Horse Classic, July 28-30 in Olds, Alta.

During the event's clinics, 4-H members will learn horsemanship skills and discuss horse management and marketing related to the horse industry. Participants will also engage in a variety of contests that challenge their creative presentation and marketing skills.

"This is an exciting opportunity for our 4-H members to enhance their communication skills and further develop their horsemanship skills," said Chris d'Entremont, Minister, Agriculture and Fisheries.

The Nova Scotia delegates were selected through an interview process that was based on their horse knowledge, leadership ability, communication skills and contributions to the 4-H program. Delegates also had to be a 4-H horse member for at least two years to qualify for the event.

4-H members attending the Alberta 4-H Horse Classic are Sarah Lowe, Lunenburg Co., Kaitlyn Kennedy, Antigonish Co., Travis Smith, Cumberland Co. and Katie Greenough, Hants Co.

"I am pleased that four of our 4-H horse project members have the opportunity to be part of this unique national event," said Liz Crouse, Manager, 4-H and Rural Organizations. "Preparation for and involvement in this program will enhance many of the youth development skills that is the strength of 4-H across Nova Scotia."
