L.A. Mission Exposes Artists

Nova Scotia's artists are being exposed in Los Angeles. Two of the most prestigious galleries in Los Angeles are exhibiting the work of three of our artists -- providing valuable profile in the fifth largest economy in the world.

Art/Nova Scotia opens today, June 29, at the William Turner Gallery and runs to July 7. The works of Colleen Wolstenholme, Peter Bustin and Graeme Patterson will be showcased, beginning with an opening reception this evening. Peter Bustin also enjoys a month-long exhibition in the window of the del Mano Gallery, where up to 10,000 will see his work on a daily basis.

The visual arts are being promoted as part of a four-day trade mission led by Premier John Hamm. Music, television, film and the life-sciences sector are also being targeted.

Premier Hamm addressed the guests during the opening reception and praised the innovation and creativity of local artists. "When we explore new opportunities through missions like this, we strengthen the opportunities for all artists," he said. "In so doing, we allow more young Nova Scotians to follow their dreams, to create and keep our world class art community strong and growing."

The galley reception was catered by Dartmouth-based Chef Stefan Czapalay, who has already sold two product lines from his Salts of the World collection during a round of meetings held in Los Angeles on Monday. Chef Stefan is also helping Taste of Nova Scotia prepare the Nova Scotia-themed menu for Canada Day celebrations at the Canadian Consulate.

"This trade mission has opened doors and exciting new markets for us," said Mr. Czapalay. "L.A. holds tremendous potential for our high-end gourmet food products."
