Work Progressing on Intersection in Kings County

TRANSPORTATION/PUBLIC WORKS--Work Progressing on Intersection in Kings County

Driving through Route 358 and Trunk 1 in Greenwich, Kings Co., will soon be a little safer.

The province is spending $900,000 to realign the intersection, install traffic lights and repave the intersection.

"The amount of traffic going through this intersection has almost doubled in the last decade and safety is a priority for the community and for government," said Mr. Russell. "The community wants this project to move forward and it is moving forward."

The minister noted that about 18,000 vehicles a day travel along Trunk 1 through the intersection.

The work is underway and will be completed this year. Lafarge Canada Inc. was awarded the contract.

The current alignment is shaped as a "Y" intersection; the new alignment will join Route 358, Trunk 1 and the Highway 101 connector at a "T" intersection, complete with traffic lights.

The Department of Transportation and Public Works highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains an inventory of 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
