Committee Formed to Investigate Petroleum Product Pricing

HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY--Committee Formed to Investigate Petroleum Product Pricing

A select committee of the Nova Scotia legislature is now in place to investigate rising gasoline prices.

The legislature's internal economy board agreed this week to fund the committee. Last month, the Nova Scotia legislature unanimously approved a resolution from Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations Minister Barry Barnet to establish a committee to investigate fuel pricing and supply issues in the province and report its findings by Aug. 31.

"Nova Scotia drivers deserve to have their say on what government can do to protect their interests," said MLA Bill Dooks, chair of the select committee on petroleum product pricing. "As chair of this important committee, I look forward to hearing from Nova Scotians on what they feel is the most effective course of action to protect consumers from sudden price hikes."

The all-party committee includes MLAs Frank Corbett, Jim DeWolfe, Howard Epstein, Danny Graham, Russell MacKinnon, Charlie Parker, Gerald Sampson and Brooke Taylor.

Alternate members are MLAs Ron Chisholm, Gary Hines and Stephen McNeil. The New Democratic Party will name an alternate at a later date.

A schedule of public meetings is expected to be announced in the near future.
