AGRICULTURE/FISHERIES--4-H Members Learn About Agriculture in Western Canada
Six 4-H members will travel to Western provinces July 8-22 to learn about agriculture and Canadian culture as part of the annual Royal Bank of Canada 4-H Interprovincial Exchange Program.
During the exchange, Nova Scotia delegates will stay with rural families in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia for two weeks. 4-H representatives from these provinces will visit Nova Scotia in August as part of the reciprocal travel program. 4-H members will learn about different Canadian agriculture industries and exchange ideas on the 4-H programs.
"I am confident that these 4-H members will be excellent ambassadors for our 4-H program and the province of Nova Scotia," said Agriculture and Fisheries Minister Chris d'Entremont.
The Nova Scotia delegates were selected through an interview process that was based on their contributions to the 4-H program and their community involvement.
The three delegates travelling to Manitoba are Kyle Hebb, Wilmot, Annapolis Co.; Bambalina Cameron, Sunnybrae, Pictou Co. and Jessica Smith, Newport Hants Co. Travelling to Saskatchewan are Sara Mahaney, Shelburne, Shelburne Co. and Charlotte Reid, Debert, Colchester Co. Roseanne Kouwenburg from Pugwash, Cumberland Co. will be travelling to British Columbia.
"This exchange program is a wonderful opportunity for 4-H members to learn about the 4-H program in many parts of Canada and we are grateful to our sponsor, the Royal Bank of Canada, for giving these members such an opportunity," said Elizabeth Crouse, manager, 4-H and rural organizations.
The Royal Bank of Canada has been sponsoring this event for 42 years and will be hosting the Nova Scotia 4-H travel delegates at a farewell banquet and reception in Halifax on Wednesday, July 7.
