4-H Members Learn Livestock Show Skills
Seventy-two 4-H members from across Atlantic Canada will learn livestock show preparation skills during the annual Eastern Breeders Incorporated 4-H Showcase from Sunday, June 27 to Tuesday, June 29, at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College in Bible Hill.
4-H members will learn from Eastern Breeders Incorporated's experts about large animal management and show preparation practices for beef and dairy cattle. They will also learn the most current techniques in clipping, showing and herd management.
"These workshops will provide important skills to our young dairy and beef producers," said Agriculture and Fisheries Minister Chris d'Entremont.
The highlight of the event is a beef and dairy show that will be held at 9:30 a.m. on June 29 at the MacMillan Show Centre on the Exhibition Grounds in Truro. Awards will be presented to the winners in each class at this event. The public is invited to attend.
"At Eastern Breeders we have a proud tradition of committing time, energy, labour and dedication to the 4-H program," said Pat Russell, promotions co-ordinator, Atlantic Region, Eastern Breeders Incorporated. "4-H members are selected from their regions to attend this educational session where they are challenged to learn new livestock handling skills while making lasting friendships with people that have similar interests."
The event has been sponsored by Eastern Breeders Incorporated for the past 15 years in partnership with Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture and Fisheries 4-H staff.
