Road Improvements for Cumberland County

TRANSPORTATION/PUBLIC WORKS--Road Improvements for Cumberland County

The province is building better roads in Cumberland County.

A tender call has been announced to repave three sections of roadway totaling about 9.2 kilometres.

"We are continuing to invest in better roads for Nova Scotians," said Ron Russell, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "We are upgrading important sections of road in this county, and now we are planning to work on other important sections of highway."

The tender covers Route 321, from Oxford town line south to Wyvern Road, about 5.1 kilometres; Route 301, from Carrington Road east to Trunk 6, about 3.4 kilometres; and Route 307, from Trunk 6 to Quarry Hill Road, about 0.7 kilometres.

The tender closes Wednesday, July 7 and work is expected to be completed by Aug. 31.

This announcement follows a $1.4-million commitment to repave part of Route 209 and plans to repave part of Trunk 6 in Cumberland County.

The Department of Transportation and Public Works highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains an inventory of 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
