Ceilidh to Launch Sherbrooke Concert Season

The Sherbrooke Village kicks off an ambitious Courthouse Concert Series on Thursday, June 24 with the first of four ceilidhs. The opening night ceilidh will feature Sherbrooke musicians Roly Burton and Bob MacDonald, and special guests Adam Cook and George Brothers.

On Canada Day, July 1, the Big Blue Eastern Swing Band will present a free concert. The concert will feature classic country and western swing provided by an array of local country musicians. The band will be recorded live in concert at the Sherbrooke Courthouse on Friday, July 2.

The Laws, a husband and wife who have established themselves as one of Canada's fastest rising folk/country acts, will return to the Courthouse stage on Thursday, July 15. They have become popular throughout Australia and the British Isles, and were among the major hits at the 2002 Stan Rogers Festival and the 2002 Courthouse Concert Series.

Eastern Nova Scotia artists Lisa Hallett, and Coleen Benoit and Ronnie Hull will perform old and new favourites from the country, traditional and gospel styles of music on Thursday, July 22.

Sherbrooke Village will celebrate its Acadian neighbours on Thursday, July 29. Salute to Acadie will feature Cheticamp fiddler Robert Deveaux, with Marion Dewar, and Leo and Tom Jelleaux.

One of Sherbrooke's favourite musical friends, multi-award winner John Gracie, will return to the Courthouse on Thursday, Aug. 5. Gracie will be featuring songs from his new recording, as well as tried and true material from past hit recordings.

Hal Bruce, another Canadian performer who is making inroads in Australia, will perform on Thursday, Aug. 12. Bruce, known for his folk/country/pop acoustic stylings, is renowned for his solo interpretations of Beatles songs and has released two critically acclaimed CDs of acoustic Beatles music.
