Highway 104 Upgrade Set to Begin
One of Nova Scotia's most travelled highways is getting a $1.7- million upgrade.
A contract has been awarded to repave nearly eight kilometres of Highway 104 and to repair one overpass in Cumberland County.
"Highway 104 is an important link between the people of Nova Scotia and the rest of Canada and it brings thousands of tourists to our province," said Ron Russell, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "This project demonstrates our continuing commitment to invest in roads that encourage tourism and strengthen social and economic ties."
The repaving will begin 100 metres east of the Route 321 underpass structure, near Oxford, and extend easterly towards the Thompson Road structure.
Cumberland Paving and Contracting Ltd. was awarded the contract. Work is scheduled to be completed by Aug. 31.
The Department of Transportation and Public Works highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains an inventory of 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices located in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
