Lieutenant-Governor To Present Heritage Awards In Sherbrooke
N.S. MUSEUM--Lieutenant-Governor To Present Heritage Awards In Sherbrooke
Two long-time advocates of the Sherbrooke Village restoration project will be honoured on Saturday, June 12, when Lt.-Gov. Myra Freeman presents the 2004 Sir John Coape Sherbrooke Heritage Awards at the What Cheer Tea Room in Sherbrooke Village.
The awards, which were initiated by the Historic Sherbrooke Village Development Society, are named after Sir John Coape Sherbrooke, a former lieutenant-governor of Nova Scotia. They are designed to recognize "persons who have made significant contributions to the preservation and promotion of the heritage of Historic Sherbrooke Village, Guysborough County and Nova Scotia."
This year's recipients, Aleah Lomas of Sherbrooke and Robert Frame of Dartmouth, played substantial roles in the development of Sherbrooke Village and worked together on the Sherbrooke Village Restoration Commission in its formative years. Mrs. Lomas served as chair of the Sherbrooke Restoration Commission from 1973 to 1975 and Mr. Frame was the first director of Sherbrooke Village.
Past recipients of the awards include the late Lester V. MacDonald, and Frank Jordan, both of Sherbrooke, Clary Croft of Halifax, and Harold Verge of Sackville.
The awards ceremony begins at 6:30 p.m. Dinner will be served by Sherbrooke Village staff and prepared by What Cheer Tea Room staff. A post-event reception will take place at the Tea Room exhibit. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the Village administration office, or reserved by calling 902-522-2400, or 1- 888-743-7845.
