Road Improvements for Cumberland
TRANSPORTATION/PUBLIC WORKS--Road Improvements for Cumberland County
A popular scenic route in Cumberland County will get a $1.4 million upgrade this year.
A contract has recently been awarded to repave almost seven kilometres of Route 209, from North Greville Road westerly.
"Building better roads keeps communities connected and also helps the tourism industry," said Ron Russell, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "Upgrading this popular tourist route will benefit residents and visitors to Cumberland County and to other areas of the province."
The tender was awarded to Dexter Construction. Work will begin on May 17 and will be completed by Aug. 31.
The Department of Transportation and Public Works highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains an inventory of 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices located in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
