Attitude Change Could Save Lives

A powerful young speaker with important messages about personal choices and road safety is visiting Nova Scotia schools next week, beginning Monday, May 17.

High school students across the province will hear how Cara Johnston lost her twin sister in a speed-related car crash the day after their 18th birthday. They'll also hear Ms. Johnston's message that teenagers have options when making decisions that could put themselves and others in danger.

"Few speakers have the ability to relate to young audiences and deliver powerful messages as well as Cara Johnston," said Ron Russell, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "Her presentation about changing attitudes could ultimately save lives."

Ms. Johnston, age 24, has spoken to more than 300,000 students across North America. This will be the fourth year in a row that she has spoken to Nova Scotia students.

The Nova Scotia tour is sponsored by the province of Nova Scotia, the Road Safety Advisory Committee, and Highway 104 Western Alignment Corp.
