2004 Summer Employment Programs Announced
Almost 600 young people will find jobs this summer thanks to the Nova Scotia Employment Program for Students and the Summer Co- Operative Employment Program. Economic Development Minister Ernest Fage announced the $1.6 million program today, May 14, and noted that many of the jobs are in rural Nova Scotia.
"The province is committed to providing relevant work experience for young people and ensuring that both students and employers benefit from these very worthwhile projects," said Mr. Fage. "Hundreds of not-for-profit organizations across the province are taking this opportunity to hire innovative young people and help them hone their skills."
The Summer Co-op Program recently placed 92 students in jobs related to their co-operative education programs at non-profit and government-funded organizations.
The Nova Scotia Employment Program for Students (NSEPS) also focuses on career-related summer jobs for post-secondary students. These jobs often provide students with career-oriented work. This program reflects government's commitment to help organizations to hire students while focussing on sectors and areas with the greatest need -- the not-for-profit sector and high unemployment regions.
Employers are seeking skilled students to fill a variety of positions. All positions may be viewed in the NSEPS catalogue, which will soon be available in employment offices across the province or on the Office of Economic Development's website at www.gov.ns.ca/econ/pep/nseps/.
