Tri-County Women's Centre Receives Provincial Funding
COMMUNITY SERVICES--Tri-County Women's Centre Receives Provincial Funding
Women in the Yarmouth region will continue to have access to support services through the Tri-County Women's Centre thanks to new funding provided by the provincial government.
The announcement, made today, May 12, by Natural Resources Minister Richard Hurlburt on behalf of Community Services Minister David Morse, makes the Tri-County Women's Centre the eighth women's centre in Nova Scotia. The Department of Community Services has committed $100,000 in annual operational funding for the centre.
"The Women's Centre is a valuable resource in our community," said Mr. Hurlburt. "The centre gives women and their families a place to access information and support when they need it. Its services benefit women and the community as a whole."
The Tri-County Women's Centre has been providing services since 2002. This new provincial funding, following the end of federal support, will enable the centre to continue to offer its broad range of services for women, primarily in rural areas. The centre offers support services, information, referrals within the community, advocacy for women and families. Programs can include health information, personal-development workshops, crisis intervention and counselling.
The province has supported women's centres since 1994, and in 2001, increased annual funding from $54,000 to $100,000 for each centre. This investment in the Tri-County Women's Centre is part of the province's ongoing commitment to women and families across the province.
