Nova Scotia's Economy Keeps Making History
PREMIER'S OFFICE- Nova Scotia's Economy Keeps Making History
For the third straight month, Nova Scotia has set a new record for jobs.
Today's monthly employment report from Statistics Canada showed that 445,500 Nova Scotians had jobs during the month of April. That's an all-time high for the province, an increase of 2,800 new jobs over the previous month and 7,300 new jobs over the last 12 months.
"Once again, more Nova Scotians are working than ever before in our province's history," said Premier John Hamm. "I would like to thank our employers and employees for continuing to show their confidence in Nova Scotia and responding so favourably to our growth strategy, Opportunities for Prosperity."
Since the release of the province's growth strategy in the fall of 2000, more than 26,000 new jobs have been created. Since the summer of 1999, more than 36,000 new jobs have been created.
"As a government, we're going to continue to implement our growth strategy and keep working hard to ensure that all Nova Scotians, regardless of where they live, have the chance to share in the benefits of our growing economy," said Economic Development Minister Ernest Fage.
The Statistics Canada report also indicated that Nova Scotia was the only Atlantic province to see a month-to-month increase in jobs.
