Energy Team Completes Successful Week in Houston

Nova Scotia's Energy Team is wrapping up a successful week in Houston, Texas, today, May 6, during the final hours at one of the world's largest oil and gas shows, the 35th Offshore Technology Conference.

"This has been a tremendous week and Nova Scotians can be proud of the impact we've made in Houston," said Energy Minister Cecil Clarke. "Our booth has been extremely busy with a lot of interest being displayed in Nova Scotia's offshore opportunities. Our businesses have been seeing real results."

The minister made a Nova Scotia connection Wednesday, May 5, while touring some of the show's 2,500 exhibits. While talking to Westex, a Chicago-based company specializing in flame resistant industry garments, it was discovered that many of those garments are sewn in Stellarton, Pictou Co., by Wear Well Garment Company.

"This is just one example of Nova Scotia companies doing business all over the world," said the minister. "This is exactly the kind of global competitiveness and expertise we're working to establish in this industry."

Thirty-seven Nova Scotia companies and organizations joined the Department of Energy and the Offshore/Onshore Technologies Association of Nova Scotia (OTANS) to attend the conference, technical conferences and business meetings.

"Our members find value at the Offshore Technology Conference not only from the international business connections they are able to make, but also from the relationships fostered within the Nova Scotia delegation," said OTANS chair Tim Brownlow. "It's been a busy and productive week for the whole Nova Scotia team."

Founded in 1969, the Offshore Technology Conference is the world's foremost event for the development of offshore resources in the fields of drilling, exploration, production, and environmental protection.
