TRANSPORTATION/PUBLIC WORKS--Contract Awarded for Road Improvements in Hants County

Smoother and safer travels are coming soon for residents and visitors of Hants County.

A contract worth over $1.5 million has been awarded to repave more than 10 kilometres of Trunk 14, from New Ross Road northerly to Gordon Shaw Concrete Limited in Windsor Forks.

"Nova Scotia's transportation network is growing stronger with each road improvement project," said Ron Russell, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "Better roads means easier transfer of goods and services in our province, and safer travels for all motorists."

The contract was awarded on April 28 to Chapman Bros. Construction. Work will be complete by August 31.

The Department of Transportation and Public Works highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains an inventory of 3,800 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices located in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
