Halifax to Host Premier Energy Regulatory Conference

For the first time, the Canadian Association of Members of Public Utility Tribunals (CAMPUT) will hold its annual conference in Nova Scotia. More than 300 delegates from Canada, the United States and Mexico will attend the conference in Halifax, May 9- 12.

The Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board (UARB) is hosting this year's conference -- Setting the Course for the Future: Energy in North America. Organizers have lined up the highest-calibre of panellists and speakers for the event.

"Many of the key players in the energy market will be attending this conference, including the top three regulators in North America," said John Morash, chair of the UARB. "This is the premier energy conference of the year, providing a unique opportunity for delegates, panellists and guest speakers to talk to each other about current energy-related topics and emerging regulatory issues."

Highlights of the conference include:

  • Monday, May 10 -- special guest speakers, including Nova Scotia Energy Minister Cecil Clarke; John Efford, federal Minister of Natural Resources; and Jean Paul Théorêt, chair of CAMPUT and vice-chair of the National Energy Board.

Featured panel members will kick off the conference discussing The Future Role of the Regulator in a Continental Energy Market. The panellists include Kenneth Vollman, chair of the National Energy Board; Patrick Wood III, chair of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission in the U.S.; and Dionisio Pérez-Jácome, president of the Comisión Reguladora de Energía of México.

Also on May 10, Nova Scotia Premier John Hamm will address the delegates at the conference luncheon.

  • Tuesday, May 11 -- Stan Wise, president of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners in the U.S., will be the guest speaker at the delegate luncheon.
