EHS to Become Ambulance Service Provider in West Pubnico

Health (to Jan. 2011)

Ambulance users in the West Pubnico area will soon be served by Emergency Health Services (EHS). The nationally acclaimed provincial ambulance service provider will begin managing the ambulance service on June 1, opening a new base in the community and hiring additional paramedics for the area.

The announcement was made today, April 23, by Brian d'Entremont, president of the current service provider, West Pubnico Ambulance and Funeral Services Association.

"We've been looking after our friends and neighbours for many years now, but there comes a time to pass the torch," said Mr. d'Entremont. "I'm confident that our clients will continue to be in good hands."

The manager of West Pubnico Ambulance and Funeral Services Association, Bernie d'Entremont, will take part in the transition to EHS. All four paramedics who are working for the current operator have been offered jobs with Emergency Health Services. EHS plans to hire an additional three or four paramedics, and will set up a temporary ambulance base in June until a permanent one can be established.

"Mr. d'Entremont, his staff, and the association have done an excellent job in serving the people of this community for many years," said Marilyn Pike, senior director, Emergency Health Services. "We look forward to building on that good work."

As part of the transition, residents of West Pubnico and the surrounding communities who require an ambulance must call 9-1-1 beginning June 1.

The Board of West Pubnico Ambulance and Funeral Services and the senior staff of EHS will hold an open house in May to meet residents and answer questions about the transition. The time and location will be announced at a later date.
