Johnson Hearing to Reconvene
Philip Girard, chair of the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission board of inquiry that heard the complaint of discrimination against Halifax Regional Police lodged by Kirk Johnson, will convene a hearing on Monday, April 19 to consider submissions regarding legal costs.
In his decision of Dec. 23, 2003, Mr. Girard said if the parties were unable to come to agreement on the issue of reimbursement of Mr. Johnson's legal costs within 30 days from the end of the appeal period of the decision he would convene a hearing and accept submissions on the matter.
The hearing will begin at 8 a.m. Monday at the Dalhousie Student Union Building in Halifax.
Boards of inquiry are the final stage in the human rights complaint process. They are independent, public hearings into complaints of discrimination. Decisions by boards of inquiry may be appealed within 30 days of the date of the decision.
