Deputy Health Minister Resigns

Premier John Hamm today, April 16, announced with regret the resignation of deputy Health Minister Tom Ward. The premier said Dr. Ward is leaving Nova Scotia to accept a senior position in Ontario.

"Dr. Ward has served Nova Scotians well," said the premier. "After years of change at the senior leadership level, Dr. Ward brought stability and helped put health care on a stronger footing at a time when we face difficult challenges with rising costs and increased demand."

The premier said the process of finding a replacement for the deputy minister is already underway. Premier Hamm wished Dr. Ward every success as he pursues his new opportunity.

Dr. Ward will continue in the department until June 1. He joined the Department of Health in 1999.
