Doctors Vote to Accept Four-Year Contract

Health Minister Angus MacIsaac welcomed news today, April 7, that Nova Scotia's doctors have voted to accept a new four-year agreement with the provincial government.

The results of the vote were announced earlier today by the Medical Society of Nova Scotia.

"This contract will help us maintain our competitive edge in attracting and keeping doctors, while living within our means," said Mr. MacIsaac. "We were able to address some challenges that are important to doctors and Nova Scotians, like providing services for rural emergency rooms, long-term care homes and palliative care and providing better access to family doctors."

The new agreement is effective from April 1, 2004 until March 31, 2008. It follows a three-year agreement that was signed in December 2001 and expired on March 31 of this year.
