Fundy Geological Museum Events for March Break
Parents and students alike can find a fun and educational way to spend March break by taking part in the indoor and outdoor activities planned from March 13 to 21 at the Fundy Geological Museum in Parrsboro.
Visitors can take in the museum's displays and events, learn about the syrup-making process while enjoying lunch at a maple syrup camp or take a half-hour sleigh ride. Some may choose to round out their day by bringing their snow carpets or skis for sledding or cross-country skiing nearby.
Two new exhibits will be featured at the museum during the week. Don Brown's Dinosaurs is a display of wood dinosaurs made by Oxford area resident Don Brown. Mr. Brown sells his dinosaurs all over North America. Visitors can see his latest wood creatures and determine what period they belong to.
Visitors can also trace the ways of many animals that walked around Nova Scotia many million years ago thanks to the Nova Scotia Trace Fossils display. The display helps teach about the animals and what the land was like at that the time they were alive.
In addition to the displays, the museum will host videos, scavenger hunts, colouring contests for children of all ages as well as other activities. Students and parents can learn about minerals, dinosaur fossils and even how to make a puppet. Sleigh rides and sugar camp lunches will be held, for a small cost, throughout the week, weather permitting.
Visitors are encouraged to make an event of the outing, perhaps by staying in Truro, Parrsboro or Port Greville for part of the March break or by participating in an Irish festival of music and food in Port Greville on Sunday, March 14.
Admission to Fundy Geological Museum is $12 for a two-adult family, $7 for a one-adult family. Sleigh rides are $8 per adult and $4 per child. Admission to The Irish festival will be $7 per adult and $3 per child.
For more information on events at the museum, places to stay and other events in the area see the museum's website at http://museum.gov.ns.ca/fgm .
