Spring Weight Restrictions Coming March 10

TRANSPORTATION/PUBLIC WORKS--Spring Weight Restrictions Coming March 10

Is spring around the corner? It's hard to imagine after the recent blizzards, but the mild weather is prompting Nova Scotia's Department of Transportation and Public Works to take steps to protect provincial roads.

The annual spring weight restrictions on Nova Scotia's provincial roads will come into effect provincewide at 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday, March 10.

The restrictions on heavy trucks is announced each year around March to help protect roads that are weakened as the frost leaves the ground, leaving the roadway vulnerable to cracking and potholes.

A detailed advertisement that lists all roads that are exempt from the restrictions will be published in newspapers today, March 5, and Monday, March 8. Information will also be posted on the department's website at www.gov.ns.ca/tran .

The spring weight restrictions are in effect until May 3. They will be removed sooner if road and weather conditions permit.
