Sysco and SERL's Operations to be Combined
TRANSPORTATION/PUBLIC WORKS--Sysco and SERL's Operations to be Combined
Following the decision to decommission and remove the incinerator facility at the Sysco site, the province of Nova Scotia has announced that it will combine the operations of Sydney Environmental Resources Limited (SERL) and Sysco. Both organizations are currently involved with continuing clean-up work at the Sysco site.
SERL's primary purpose was the maintenance of the incinerator. With the decision today, March 4, to decommission the incinerator, one of SERL's major areas of responsibility has ended. It had another role as a labour-pool co-ordinator for the Sysco clean-up activities. In this capacity, it placed former steelworkers into demolition and clean-up employment opportunities with Sysco. As the need to hire former steelworkers for the Sysco clean-up remains, bringing the organizations together will improve the co-ordination and efficiency of this activity.
Sysco and SERL, both provincial Crown corporations, will share a board of directors. The management team will continue to be led by John Traves, a senior government official and current president of Sysco.
