TRANSPORTATION/PUBLIC WORKS--Traffic Advisory, Canso Causeway, Cape Breton, Antigonish Update

Drivers are asked to use extreme caution today, Feb. 27, across Cape Breton Island and Antigonish County due to inclement weather.

The Canso Causeway is now open to one-lane of escorted traffic. However, high winds may force a short-term closure at a moment's notice. For information over the weekend, motorists are asked to call 902-625-2540.

In Inverness County, drivers are asked remain off the road as blowing snow is creating white-out conditions and many roads remain closed or have reduced lane width. The Nova Scotia Department of Transportation and Public Works is sending equipment and operators from other parts of Cape Breton and mainland Nova Scotia to assist crews in Inverness County. Private contractors are also being hired to assist with snow removal.

Provincial crews are working non-stop to open all roads in Inverness County.
