Provincial State of Emergency Terminated
The provincewide state of emergency, which was declared at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, will end at 9 p.m. today, Sunday, Feb. 22.
“Tremendous progress has been made in clearing the record breaking snowfall amounts from provincial and municipal roadways,” said Ernest Fage, Minister responsible for the Emergency Measures Organization. “Although there is still a lot of snow to be removed, especially in metro areas, a state of emergency is not required to complete this work.”
The minister said public safety is still EMO’s number one concern and although most streets and roads have been cleared, all roads are narrower than usual, with some lanes still not open.
Provincial government offices will be open on Monday, Feb. 23.
In anticipation of the usual work week traffic, especially in Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM), employers and employees are urged to reduce the number of vehicles on the road by car pooling and using Metro Transit wherever possible.
Residents in HRM are advised to listen to their local media outlets for further road conditions and transit information.
