MADD Canada Project Red Ribbon Campaign
The Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation's (NSLC) effort to promote sober driving this holiday season will again include support for the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD Canada) Project Red Ribbon campaign.
Throughout December, all 100 NSLC stores across the province will display donation boxes at checkout counters, offering customers the campaign's signature red ribbons for display on the outside of vehicles.
"Tying a MADD Canada red ribbon on your vehicle is a simple but effective way to say please don't drink and drive," said NSLC acting president Ken Barbet. "NSLC employees are very proud to take part in Project Red Ribbon and to offer their customers a way to show their support for this important campaign."
Since 1999, the NSLC has raised more than $18,000 for the campaign. Funds collected through Project Red Ribbon are used for initiatives aimed at preventing impaired driving and to support victims of this violent crime. There are seven MADD Canada chapters across Nova Scotia where volunteers are doing this important work throughout the year.
"The efforts of NSLC employees in supporting MADD Canada is essential to MADD's effectiveness in Nova Scotia. We encourage all NSLC customers to Tie One On For Safety and make the commitment to drive sober," said Andrew Murie, national executive director of MADD Canada. "Let's make this holiday season a time for great joy and not sadness due to the tragic consequences that can result from impaired driving. Drinking and driving simply don't mix."
MADD Canada hopes to distribute four million red ribbons across Canada. Every day more than four Canadians are killed and 200 Canadians are seriously injured as a result of impaired-driving crashes. About 40 per cent of all traffic fatalities are alcohol- related.
