Board to Hear Family Status Complaint
Nova Scotia's Human Rights Commission has appointed a board of inquiry to consider a complaint of discrimination based on family status.
The complaint involves Janet Leadley of Lower Sackville. Ms. Leadley alleges she was denied an apartment in a building owned by Oakland Developments because she has children.
Ken Crawford has been appointed chair of the board of inquiry for the complaint, which will be heard on Thursday, Dec. 11 and Friday, Dec. 12 at the Academy Room, Four Points Sheraton, Hollis Street, Halifax. The hearing begins at 9:30 a.m. Thursday.
Boards of inquiry are the final stage in the human rights complaint process. They are independent, public hearings into complaints of discrimination.
