Nova Scotia's Winter Road Report Begins Annual Work
TRANSPORTATION/PUBLIC WORKS--Nova Scotia's Winter Road Report Begins Annual Work
Cam Allen, the voice of the Nova Scotia's Winter Road Report, is back on the job.
Mr. Allen returned to his winter post over the weekend, and is once again providing the public with provincial road condition updates three times daily.
"The provincial winter road reports are a valuable safety tool for motorists during the winter months," said Mr. Allen, a 10- year veteran of the job. "Drivers appreciate the service."
Information for the road reports comes from about 30 department bases across Nova Scotia and from Environment Canada weather reports. For the most part, the reports cover the province's 100- series highways network. It is used by drivers, radio stations, newspapers and television stations such as the Weather Network.
The road reports are available by calling 1-800-307-SNOW (7669), or 424-3933 in Halifax.
The road report is also available on the Internet at http://www.gov.ns.ca/tran . The button in the upper left-hand corner of the page, marked Road Conditions and Weather, gives access to the latest information.
Deaf or hard of hearing callers who use a TTY telephone are able to access provincial road condition reports by dialing 426-7554 in Halifax, or toll-free 1-866-297-7544.
The Winter Road Report has been in operation for more than two decades. It operates each year until late March or early April, depending upon weather.
Drivers are also encouraged to do their part by monitoring local weather and road reports, and by slowing down and being attentive.
