The Sounds of Christmas At Sherbrooke Village

Sherbrooke Village will be alive with the sounds of the season for the next four weekends as it hosts its annual, award-winning Old Fashioned Christmas event.

The festivities kick off on Friday, Nov. 28, with a tree lighting and candlelight procession beginning at 7 p.m. at Maple Manor and ending at Sherbrooke Village. The procession is followed immediately by a Christmas Carol sing and a show by East Coast Music Award winners Kidd Brothers at the Village Square at 7:45 p.m.

There will be festive music at an Old Fashioned Christmas Concert at the Sherbrooke Lions Hall on Saturday, Nov. 29, and an ecumenical choir service on Sunday, Nov. 30 at St. James Presbyterian Church, located in Sherbrooke Village.

On Saturday, Dec. 6, George Brothers and Ol' Blue will present seasonal music and popular standards from the 1940s to the '80s at the annual Christmas Dinner and Dance at the Lions Hall.

On Sunday, Dec. 7 at 3:30 p.m., a Christmas Ceilidh will be presented at the Courthouse, with Roly Burton and Friends.

John Gracie, one of Sherbrooke's favourite musical friends, also returns on Dec. 7, to begin his Christmas As I Remember It tour. This will mark Mr. Gracie's fifth consecutive Christmas show at the Sherbrooke Courthouse. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m.

Music is only one part of Old Fashioned Christmas activities which also include crafts, wagon rides, family skates and other events at Sherbrooke Village.

Although the Old Fashioned Christmas event officially ends on Sunday, Dec. 7, the village remains lighted and decorated until Christmas. And the music will not stop either. Sherbrooke Courthouse concert organizers have decided to take advantage of the festive site to present two additional concerts.

The MacLean Sisters will return to the Sherbrooke area for a second year, performing music from their recording Reflections of Christmas. The MacLeans will be joined by country singer RyLee Madison, who has just released a five-song Christmas CD. The concert takes place at the Courthouse on Saturday, Dec. 13 at 7:30 p.m.

The final festive offering will be on Sunday, Dec. 21 at 7:30 p.m. when Ardyth and Jennifer bring their Winter Fire Tour to Sherbrooke. The Celtic harpists have performed in the courthouse on a number of occasions.
