Vanier Cup Challenge

PREMIER'S OFFICE- Vanier Cup Challenge

Nova Scotia Premier John Hamm has challenged Quebec Premier Jean Charest to a friendly wager for this weekend's Vanier Cup game.

The Saint Mary's Huskies are set to take on Laval's Rouge et Or in university football's national championship on Saturday afternoon at the Toronto SkyDome.

"All Nova Scotians are behind Coach Blake Nill and his team as they strive to make Canadian university sport history with the first-ever Vanier Cup three-peat," said Premier Hamm. "Fresh Nova Scotia lobster is on the line for Premier Charest should Laval pull off an upset. However, I am confident the Huskies will bring home to Nova Scotia another Vanier Cup title."

In a letter sent to the Quebec premier today, Nov. 21, Premier Hamm invited him to offer up a prize of similar value.

Last year, Nova Scotia won a similar challenge with Saskatchewan Premier Lorne Calvert.

No university football team has ever won three consecutive national titles.
