Sherbrooke Village Events Receive Tourism Awards
The 2003 Sherbrooke Show & Shine and Sherbrooke Village's 2002 edition of Old Fashioned Christmas both won marketing awards at the Tourism Industry Association of Nova Scotia (TIANS) festival and events luncheon in Halifax on Sunday, Nov. 16.
The Show & Shine was judged the best in the category of marketing with a budget under $20,000. In making the presentation to Show & Shine chair Sonny Alexander, TIANS chair Nick Carson spoke of the excellence exhibited in the event's website, posters, brochures and advertising. This marks the second year in a row that the Show & Shine has been recognized by TIANS.
Old Fashioned Christmas in Sherbrooke was a winner in the budget category of $20,000-$49,000. Owen Hamelin, chair of the TIANS festival and event committee, made the presentation to George Brothers who represented Sherbrooke Village and the Old Fashioned Christmas committee. Old Fashioned Christmas was singled out for its use of imagery in posters, website, brochures and print advertising.
The 2003 Old Fashioned Christmas event begins on Friday, Nov. 28 with activities that include a candlelight procession, a visit from Santa, free treats, a performance by East Coast Music Award winners Kidd Brothers and a fireworks display.
The event runs for two weekends, concluding on Sunday Dec. 7 when singer John Gracie kicks off his 2003 Christmas As I Remember It tour at the Sherbrooke Courthouse. This marks Mr. Gracie's fifth Christmas appearance in Sherbrooke.
