TRANSPORTATION/PUBLIC WORKS--Contract Awarded for Road Construction in HRM
Motorists near the Lacewood Drive entrance to Bayers Lake Industrial Park may soon get a smoother ride and faster travel times thanks to a rebuilt interchange at Lacewood Drive and Highway 102.
A contract worth $1.3 million has been awarded to Dexter Construction. Work at Exit 2A of the interchange is underway and is to be completed later this year. The province and the Halifax Regional Municipality are sharing the costs of the project.
"This is another substantial investment in the road network of the metro region," said Ron Russell, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "We are working to provide the best road network possible for the travelling public."
As part of the work, Lacewood Drive will be widened and repaved at the interchange area and permanent traffic lights will be installed at the end of the off-ramps.
The Department of Transportation and Public Works highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains an inventory of 3,800 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
